We’re not perfect, and we won’t claim to be! I won’t “pill” Eleven in any way that surprise attacks her, is forceful, or scary, especially if it’s going to be a daily medication. That’ll only make it harder on me and break down her trust in me. ♡ To say we love a little extra help for your scared kitty or pup before vet visits or other scary things is an understatement - BUT some things work and some don’t! ♡ I will often recommend a pharmaceutical before vet visits when I see a pet who is showing high levels of fear, anxiety, and/or stress at a visit, and my recommendations are based off of the individual always. Pharmaceuticals tend to work more reliably and (bonus!) are cheaper and take less effort sometimes. These can include gabapentin, alprazolam, trazodone, or other medications. ♡ For pets who are exhibiting low levels of stress or owners who feel hesitant, a supplement is another option - these tend to work less consistently and usually have to be given for a few days prior to a visit, but they can be a useful tool regardless. These supplements are again tailored to the individual but can include Composure Pro, Zylkene, Adaptil, and others. ♡ there is no evidence behind CBD working for anxiety - it is an expensive bottle of air. I have never once recommended it and anecdotally have never heard anyone say it works noticeably for their pet. ♡ If your pet is anxious for certain situations, talk to your vet about how to help!

Today we want to shine a light on our fear free and low stress vet techs who have gone so far above and beyond the call of duty. These staff are not only skilled in incredibly complex technical skills but ALSO consider our pet’s mental health while handling them in these stressful situations which can make such a huge difference in their lives. Having a stress free visit to the vet is NOT possible without support staff, mostly our incredible techs - so thank you for everything.
